The Centre is a fantastic venue for Car Club gatherings, either as the mystery destination for a car run, or as the perfect setting for a full day of activities.

 What is Included?
  • Free parking on the large field in front of The Centre. 
  • Access to the hands-on exhibits indoors and out (weather permitting).
  • A visit to the exhibition 'Domes of Discovery- the story of The Royal Observatory' which brings to life the 300 year history of one of the most famous scientific institutions in the world.
  • Groups and societies with a particular affiliation to astronomy or engineering may choose to book a private telescope tour which can include the domes which are not normally open to the public (small additional charge).
  • Further options can be discussed and could include a fun workshop or science show (small additional charge).

Cost for pre-booked Car Clubs

The following costs apply to pre-booked car club groups with 20+cars.

Per car £12
Max. 2 persons per car, then £10 per additional person.

Private Telescope Tour £1 pp
Private Science Show £1 pp
Private fun, science based workshops (e.g.water rockets) from £1 pp

Traditional Cream Teas £3.50 pp

Car Club organisers are welcome to a complimentary visit to The Centre to check the parking facilities and discuss arrangements etc- please call us in advance and we will try to ensure a member of staff is available to answer your questions.

Important Information and Facilities

The Observatory Science Centre cannot accept any reponsibility for vehicles or property during the event.
The parking area is a gently sloping grass field. Organisers must check that access is suitable for the vehicles concerned.

Organisers are responsible for the marshalling and parking of vehicles during the event.  General public visitors to The Centre must also have access to parking areas.

  • There is plenty of picnic space around the site. 
  • Café serving refreshments, sandwiches & light meals etc
  • Gift shop packed with a fantastic range of pocket money science toys and souvenirs as well as science books, resources & astronomy related items.
  • We have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. All have a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Certificate and many are registered as STEM Ambassadors.
  • The Centre is a NON-SMOKING site, includes E-cigarettes.
  • CCTV is operating throughout the site.
