The Centre is an ideal venue for a coach outing or group meeting placeAll ages and abilities will find something to both entertain and educate.  Science learning is not just for the young; but also for the young at heart and we aim to put the 'fun' back into science!

What is Included?

  • Access to the hands-on exhibits indoors and out (weather permitting).
  • A visit to the exhibition 'Domes of Discovery- the story of The Royal Observatory' which brings to life the 300 year history of one of the most famous scientific institutions in the world.
  • Groups and societies with a particular affiliation to astronomy or engineering may choose to book a private telescope tour which can include the domes which are not normally open to the public (small additional charge).
  • Further options can be discussed and could include a fun workshop or science show (small additional charge).

Special Needs Groups
1-1 FREE entry (ID required) for essential carers of registered disabled visitors.  We have disabled facilitis and access to most areas; please contact us for more information.


Group organisers are welcome to a complimentary visit to the centre to check the facilities and discuss arrangements etc- please call us in advance and we will try to ensure a member of staff is available to answer your questions.

Important Information and Facilities

  • There is ample FREE parking for coaches, minibuses & cars
  • There is plenty of picnic space around the site. 
  • Café serving refreshments, sandwiches & light meals etc
  • Gift shop packed with a fantastic range of pocket money science toys and souvenirs as well as science books, resources & astronomy related items.
  • Dedicated team of staff, all of whom are checked through the Criminal Records Bureau and many of whom are registered STEM Science & Engineering Ambassadors.
  • The Centre is a NON-SMOKING site.
  • CCTV is operating throughout the site.
Please ensure your coach driver knows how to find The Centre.
Satellite Navigations may direct you to the closed entrance of the Herstmonceux Estate if you use the postcode so set the device to Wartling Road, Wartling.
Joint Bookings with Castle
The Centre is located within the beautiful Herstmonceux Castle estate, home of the International Study Centre of Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. If you have a full day available and would like to visit both the science centre and the castle gardens & grounds, it is possible to arrange a joint booking.
