Telescope Clinic for Adults
This course is a mix of classroom based teaching in one of the domes and practical hands-on teaching outdoors so you can learn how to use your telescope. Members of local Astronomy Societies will guide you through setting up your telescope and getting the best out of it. Weather permitting they will also start you on your way to viewing the night sky. Spring and Autumn dates available.

Do you have a telescope but haven't quite got to the bottom of how it works? Do you need some friendly advice? Have you just been given a telescope as a present or is one still sitting in its box gathering dust? If you would like to learn how to use your telescope properly then this is the course is for you!
On this course local astronomy enthusiasts will be able to guide you through your telescope and help you set it up ready to begin your observations. The day will begin with an introduction about telescopes, the terminology used and the parts that make up the telescope and how they work. This will be followed by small group sessions when you get really hands-on. The early evening will be dedicated to looking through your telescope and getting to grips with what your telescope is capable of (weather permitting).

One day course for adults
This course offers a fantastic opportunity to learn how to use your own telescope. The course is led by members of local astronomy societies who are exceptionally knowledgeable and very keen amateur astronomers who can give you expert guidance and plenty of tips to get the most enjoyment out of your telescope.
Please make sure that your telescope is fully functional and you have all the parts before coming on the course. The astronomers will not be able to mend any faults or provide spare parts. Please also make sure you have functional batteries and spares if your telescope uses them as we are unable to provide spares or mains electricity.

Additional Information
Please wear warm clothing and sensible footwear. Please also bring a torch; preferably red light.The Centre, has been built on different levels with high walkways, steps and ramps so please be very careful when walking around The Centre especially in the hours of darkness.
There are breaks during the course for a hot drink and you can purchase food from our cafe. We will contact you via email prior to the course with food options should you wish to pre-order.
It is also essential that you let us know the make and model of your telescope including the type of mount in advance. If you make a booking on-line please provide us with this information in the special requirements section of the booking form. It would also be very useful if you could send a photograph of your telescope through by email.
This is so that we can inform the astronomers about which telescopes to expect. They can then partner you with a member of their team who is the most knowledgeable about your particular telescope. The practical sessions will be conducted in small groups.

PARKING: There is ample free parking on the grassed car park in front of The Centre.If you are a blue badge holder, there are 5 parking bays available at the back of the science centre, adjacent to our ramped entrance. Please note that by virtue of the historic nature of the building, the domes are accessed by steep narrow stairs.
